History
Resa's early life remains mostly a mystery, aside from the fact that he had a younger sister named Roanoke and is believed to have been born after the Chaotic Era. As a child, he was known as the "pretty boy" in his neighborhood.[1]
Project Newborn
As an adult, Resa became one of the brightest medical scholars of his generation. He eventually joined the Hero Clan, though the exact timing of his induction remains unclear, with some speculation that he became a member shortly after the clan's formation. During the Great War, his sister, Ronoke, contracted a deadly disease and was on the brink of death. Desperate to save her, Resa was approached by a mysterious scientist who had also joined the Hero Clan.[2]
The scientist offered Resa a deal, stating that his genius could be used to benefit humanity and that his sister didn’t have much time left. The scientist proposed that Resa join their cause, from which point he would be known as "Vector" and become part of a necessary evil for the greater good. The scientist gathered other intellectuals, all wearing gas masks, and presented a vision: as gifted individuals, they were obligated to guide humanity. He warned that bloodshed was inevitable for great accomplishments. To punctuate his speech, the scientist blew his own head off. However, he caught his severed head and reattached it, revealing he had transcended humanity by becoming a Gift User.
The scientist explained that their ultimate goal was to abolish the discrimination against humans and turn every single human into Gift Users through a project known as Project Newborn. The research, driven by the necessity of overcoming the limits of humanity, was darker and more brutal than the Hero Clan's objectives. Vector became deeply involved in the project, overseeing the horrific experimentation of countless test subjects. When another scientist angrily questioned his cold approach to the lives of these subjects, Vector coldly replied that his actions were motivated by personal reasons, not the greater good. When reminded that the test subjects had families too, he stated, "They aren’t my family."
The Spectator
Years passed, with the Great War coming to an end and the Age of Heroes and Villains beginning. During this time, Vector’s obsession with the research deepened. He met a test subject named Daemon, known as "AK14," who had become one of the project's few successes. Daemon harbored a deep hatred for Vector, but Vector was indifferent as he didn't even know the boy's real name.[3] Other successful conversions included a man named John Nash and a young boy named Zaran, both of whom were turned into Gift Users.[4]
The head scientist marveled at their progress, noting that Artificial Gift Users had surpassed regular humans, but Vector was uninterested in the praise. He demanded to know the status of his sister, as months had passed without any word. The head scientist informed him that Ronoke had died long ago. As Vector struggled to process this news, the head scientist attacked him, demanding that he continue working on the project. After all, they had come so far and abandoning it now would be unfair to the test subjects who had died in the process.
Vector meeting Engen, the Smiling Man.
In that moment, overwhelmed with guilt for his role in the suffering he had caused, Vector realized he had abandoned his humanity for nothing. In a desperate attempt to escape the weight of his sins, he activated his Gift, opening portals to random locations across the world. One such portal sent him and John Nash to a snowy environment, where they encountered the infamous Villain Engen the Smiling Man, the former leader of the Nera Villains. Engen recognized the usefulness of Vector's power.[5]
Recognizing Engen’s reputation, Vector offered his services in exchange for the chance to witness and participate in Engen's plans. Engen agreed, and Vector joined the Nameless, a group of survivors from the war and a new generation of villains, alongside John. During this time, Vector met Rachel Sinclair, Engen's first recruit and the daughter of the Mad Elder Reagan Sinclair.
He also became acquainted with Baek-Ji, a young Gift User who harbored a deep vendetta against the Hero Clan's leader. Vector grew close with Rachel as he even decided to help her succeed with her revenge and Rachel typically teasing him. The group of villains eventually settled in Dust City, District 17, where they began their new lives as outcasts.
