| — Yeon to her enemies. in Episode 262 |
Memory is the Gift used by Yeon. It allowed her to manipulate the minds of others through subtle yet potent mind control.
Description
A rare mental-based ability, the Gift granted Yeon the ability to manipulate the minds of others, manifesting as a pixel-like resonance that appeared to alter reality from the perspective of a target.[1] It's triggered by Yeon making eye contact with her target. Hints of the Gift were first seen during Mind Shocker's probing of Ihwa's mind, as Kasha, curious about how she was resisting his own Mind Shock. After entering her subconscious, the Villains would then try to remove one of her "restricts" before he was stopped by a wraith-like figure that resembled Yeon, but Ihwa herself wasn't aware of the figure assuming that she simply punched him in her mind.[2]
The Gift is arguably the greatest among mental-based Gifts, due to its control over the minds of numerous powerful combatants like Dusk and The Fingers, who were completely unaware that they were being manipulated and used.
Usage
Yeon was a highly lethal master and brilliant tactician with her Gift, having placed potent "seeds" within the minds of her "coworkers", the Fingers, the very moment they had met, foreseeing an eventuality of betrayal and confrontation with the deadly assassins and multiple Black Hand agents like Senshu, subtly using them as countermeasures to aid either her or her allies even after her death. [3] She also rigged vague commands like "forget Yeon" to be completely undetected by Shards or Gifts due to manifesting as a nice mixture of truth and lies.
The veracity of Yeon's death was depicted in two distinct different accounts; Chain's Ring showed her valiantly fighting against the Black Hand and struck down by the Second Finger's "Gift" but was stopped by Yushin, the Ghost of Dust City, from finishing her off later tragically dying in Ihwa's arms [4] and Majesty's first-hand account remembering a "fierce battle" that she, Nanzu, Immortal, Saint Light, and Seven, in its "Varius" persona, ultimately won, though, she had already slain over half of them. But the insane saint made no mention of encountering or fighting Yushin, claiming that it was "Varius" who personally volunteered to dispose of Yeon’s body.[5]
And as testament to Yeon's power, the Gift is strong enough to negate other Gifts like it, overwhelming Saint Light's Light of the Messiah to the point of destroying his entire nervous system in a single clash and easily negating Mind Shocker's Mind Shock.[6] With the Gift inevitably wearing off, Agent Number Seven began using its basic abilities to annihilate its victims, having killed the likes of Sledgehammer, a District Manager, with one-sided ease. [7]
Techniques
Weaknesses
While incredibly powerful, the Gift has a notable restriction and simple weakness. Its restriction prevents it from affecting a previous target or individuals [8]. Additionally, Yeon was unable to control the illusions or false events her Gift produced, as it was impossible to manipulate the minds of dozens of targets.
For example, Dalia Mendoza struggled to remember Yeon, her memories - a mixture of their early meeting, fight, and missions together. And Nanzu remembering the events of Operation Dusk failing with the arrival of Yushin, the Ghost of Dusty City, but succeeding in killing Yeon.[9]
