EST (ㄷㄴㅅ) is a type of energy that resides within a Gift user's physical body, enabling them to use and harness their abilities.
As a form of energy, EST is also a natural occurrence throughout the world with it being common in both the known world or "paradise" and otherside.
Overview
Example of different EST reserve levels.
With EST, Gift users can use their abilities, with the primary limitations being the nature of the ability and the user's EST reserves. The amount of EST reserves varies from user to user, and different abilities consume different amounts of EST.
As users employ their powers, their EST depletes, and battles between Gift users often come down to who can manage their EST most efficiently. Some abilities require little energy, while others drain it rapidly. If a user isn't careful with their EST consumption, overexertion can be fatal.
For example, Jade's Electrokinesis allowed him to generate electricity without consuming much EST, enabling him to use it for over five minutes. In contrast, Viper's Intangibility was highly EST-intensive, allowing him to use it for only a few seconds before his energy was depleted.
It's also been suggested that EST doesn't directly affect a user's stamina. For instance, Hero Killer used all of her EST in a battle against Chaos and Viper but showed no signs of fatigue later stating that she wouldn't use Jade's Gift, implying she still had the strength to continue fighting despite expending all of her EST.
Manipulation
Aside from one's Gift, a Gift user can use EST to reinforce their bodies and weapons to fight at superhuman levels, especially when their Gifts are not useable due to varying circumstances or if their Gifts aren't suited for battle. However, controlling one's EST is considered much more difficult than simply using their Gifts.
Combat
High-level users and masterful fighters are capable of controlling their EST to create energy constructs, unleash large scale attacks or techniques, discharge EST created projectiles and even use it for limited telekinesis.
- Energy Style: Offensive EST manipulation is common among skilled sword wielders and prominent masters as their techniques are built around unleashing EST in different forms or attacks.[1]
Trivia
- According to the creators, there are many Gifts that require conditions or a price to pay without the use of EST.
- The average Gift user sometime make fun of sword wielders that have given up on awakening.
